Hold off on your New Years Plans fellow Human Resource Directors!
Put down the champaign and get cozy in your office chair as you prepare to type into your HIOS portal (that you created months before of course so its ready) that you Attest that your Health Insurance Vendor is providing you all the information you ask for and there is nothing in your contracts that stop you from accessing that information.
Wait – What information?
Ask your Health Insurer for Claims files – what stuff costs, how much they made for negotiating those costs, what the original costs are, ICD10 codes to see what you got charged for, etc. That kind of information.
They tell you that kind of information?
Well that is the problem – they probably won’t and that gets us back to why you should Hold of on your New Years Plans!
As of December 31, of 2023 all companies that provide Group Health Insurance have to attest that their contracts with their Health Insurance Vendors do not limit their access to data and that when you ask them for it they will give it to you. If you sign that Attestation and it is not true then you have just perjured yourself.
Here is our White Paper that is a bit more formal on the matter. If you have questions on this (you should) please reach out.
